Fanes Senes Braies Natural Park
The Fanes Senes Braies Natural Park with its 25,680 hectares, is the third largest of all natural parks in the Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol. Since 2009 the Dolomites and the Nature Park Fanes Senes Braies are part of the UNESCO natural world heritage. The typical Dolomite landscape is characterized by the presence of vast plateaus, which stretch much further than the tree line, forests and beautiful lakes. Due to its complex geomorphology, the park is of great scientific interest. Like in no other area of the Dolomites, the geomorphology of Fanes, Senes and Fosses is strongly characterized by the carsism phenomenon with all its typical shapes, reed fields, leaks, wells and dolines, in which permanent, or even more often temporary, lakes are formed.
The Visitors Centre of the "Fanes Senes Braies" Natural Park in San Vigilio di Marebbe is located 100 metres from the Al Plan Camping.
The Visitors Centre in San Vigilio di Marebbe provides an open window to the park for visitors. With the help of interactive instruments, games for kids, videos and panels you can discover the secrets of this protected area. Visitors are introduced to the magical world of Ladin legends. They are brought back in history when visiting the bear caves and will learn of the forces, which shaped our mountains. Visitors will also have the opportunity of immersing themselves into some of the most characteristic vegetative surroundings and into some gigantic terrain, where they will observe amphibians and reptiles, our forests' little guests. Finally, a playing section and a botanic round tour outside the centre will teach children how to recognize the animal's footprints, to see a microscopic world, to research the remains of the bear and to interact with nature in an enjoyable way.
