San Vigilio di Marebbe
"Bun dé" is the Ladin expression to say "hello"!
The municicality of Marebbe include 4 villages: San Vigilio, Rina, Longega and Pieve. San Vigilio has approx. 1,300 inhabitants and lies at about 1,200 metres above sea level. Ladin is the language spoken in this valley. This language arose when the language spoken by the Raethian population, who inhabited this area, merged with the vulgar Latin language spoken by Roman soldiers and merchants. Ladin has survived up to today: It is still spoken by a vast majority of the population in Val Badia and it is also taught in school.
